I spent 4.5 hours this week identifying the best crypto subreddits. Some of them I follow already and highly recommend. Reddit is the best place to follow discussions about crypto and web3. In the section below I have ranked subreddits according to their popularity and number of members. I recommend you join all of them and then slowly filter out the ones you find less useful.

There are three main types of subreddits when it comes to crypto
- The first focuses on crypto news, trading, and general discussions about crypto
- The second targets fans of specific blockchains and coins: bitcoin, dogecoin, Ethereum network, Binance coin, Shiba Inu coin, etc. You get the picture
- The third centers around NFTs.
Shortly after typing this post, I saw this tweet by @Naval saying: “The biggest threat to Google Search is Reddit”.

And I think it is true. Or at least for crypto, it is.
Reddit is a great place to stay in the loop on what is happening in the crypto market. To post on Reddit requires more thought which results in fewer low-quality comments compared to other social network discussions.
So let’s take a look at the leading cryptocurrency subreddits. I have ranked them by popularity as measured by their number of members

Top cryptocurrency subreddits
1. /r/CryptoCurrency/
One of the best subreddits for staying up to date on all things crypto

r/CryptoCurrency is by far the largest subreddit on Crypto and one of the best ways to keep up with what is going on in the market. It boasts almost 6Mn members with 6-15K active members at any time. This community of crypto enthusiasts is super engaged with a lot of comments and upvotes on top posts. Follow this subreddit to stay on top of the latest news and trending topics in crypto. For example, currently, all the discussion is around FTX and how it will impact other crypto projects. The community is also very responsive when you ask questions.
2. /r/Bitcoin/
Great for maintaining your faith in Bitcoin.

r/Bitcoin is the second most popular subreddit on crypto. The Bitcoin subreddit is a great option for users who want to focus solely on Bitcoin. There are many in the crypto community who believe that anything other than Bitcoin is nonsense. If you’re one of those people then this subreddit is for you. I like to follow this specific topic because it boosts my morale during the downturn. The community boasts 4.7Mn members with about 10K active members at any time
3. r/dogecoin/
For Dogecoin fans who just want to have fun.

The Dogecoin community is one of the largest crypto subreddits. Surprisingly, this is the largest altcoin subreddit surpassing Ethereum and other coins. The community boasts 2.4Mn members with around 7K being active at any time. This is the perfect place for Dogecoin fans who just want to scroll through some funny Dogecoin memes and have that feeling of camaraderie.
4. /r/ethtrader/
For those who trade ETH and then see ETH coins in their dreams

r/ethtrader is a good place to discuss Ethereum news, memes, investing, and trading. If ETH is your thing then this is the subreddit to follow. Mind you, it doesn’t focus solely on Ethereum. You can also stay pretty up-to-date on cryptocurrency news by following this one subreddit. The /ethtrader subreddit has more than 2Mn members with about 600 active members.
5. /r/CryptoMoonShots/
Stay on top of low market cap coins that are up and coming.

This is one of the biggest communities discussing low market cap cryptocurrencies with the potential to a moonshot. This group has very specific rules. They encourage you to be extra cautious and DYOR (Do your own research). Community members are not allowed to ask rudimentary questions like “Which is your opinion on x coin.” Rather they are encouraged to research and post their own opinion about a low-cap coin or upcoming ICOs. CryptoMoonShots has almost $2Mn members with about 500 members being active last time I checked.
6. /r/ethereum/
Stay on top of the nitty-gritty for anything that has to do with Ethereum.

If you are an Ethereum fan then this is the subreddit for you. This forum discusses all things Ethereum: from technicalities about the Ethereum blockchain to staking ETH across various crypto platforms and exchanges. The Ethereum subreddit has about 1.5Mn members and about 2K active members. Compare to the eth trader it is a little more technical and focuses on the milestones that Ethereum is achieving. Good to follow if you want to stay up to date with Ethereum but not if you don’t care about the details so much.
7. /r/CryptoMarkets/
Best subreddit for crypto traders to stay in the loop on the market

This is the best subreddit for discussions on cryptocurrency trading. The group focuses on technical analysis and price predictions for crypto investors. It has about 1.1Mn members and about 1000 active users at any time! The forum says the discussion should center around technicals like RSI, volume, oscillators, stochastic trends, market sentiment, and trading strategies. However, if you scroll through the subreddit you will also see people discuss a lot of crypto news. So this would be a good place for you to join if you trade frequently and want to stay on top of your trading game.
8. /r/btc/
For bitcoiners who don’t like the r/bitcoin subreddit because they believe it is censoring stuff.

This subreddit has attracted a more ideological crowd as it was formed as a reaction to r/Bitcoin censoring topics. Or at least this is what the r/BTC creators claim. This subreddit still has a sizeable number of members at 1.1Mn members.
9. /r/BitcoinBeginners/
Awesome subreddit is for all Bitcoin-related questions for newbies; both practical to technical.

As suggested by the title of this subreddit this group is for bitcoin beginners. The discussions center around rookie questions such as how to manage different wallets (check out my article on what is a crypto address to understand wallets better) or what steps to take to achieve a desired goal on various crypto exchanges. The group has 1.1Mn members and is ranked in the top 1% by size in the Reddit ecosystem.
11. /r/binance/
It’s in the name. If you use Binance or the Binance Smart Chain then this subreddit is for you.

Binance is the largest centralized exchange so naturally, they have a large subreddit. Most of the discussions here are related to the Binance exchange and Binance smart chain. The community is large so if you join you will still be able to stay on top of broader crypto news but in general it makes more sense to join if you are a Binance user.
12. /r/CryptoTechnology/
Best place for technical-oriented crowds to hang out and discuss blockchains

If you want to geek out on technical discussions around blockchain technology then I recommend you join this subreddit. The community is large at 900K members but they take themselves seriously. No memes or investment advice and such topics are allowed. Follow this group if you are more interested in how the technology works rather than promotional content.
13. /r/cardano/
Cardano lovers this is the best subreddit for you.

Cardano fans will be happy to know that there is a place for them to express their solidarity with all things Cardano in this subreddit. This is the biggest altcoin community after Ethereum.
14. /r/SatoshiStreetBets/
This one is similar to crypto Twitter.

Being on this subreddit is kind of similar to being on crypto Twitter. The forum has a combination of memes, price movement commentary, and crypto news. I am a part of it as I sometimes find some useful nuggets of information I don’t find elsewhere.
15. /r/NFT/
Best place to understand and stay on top of NFTs.

This subreddit is for those of us who are passionate about NFTs and their future uses. NFTs are a whole different ball game in the crypto space and staying on top of this particular topic can be tricky. Anything related to NFTs is acceptable to discuss: video games, decentralized identities, and blockchain domains. As far as I can see there are a lot of people promoting or sharing their NFT pics plus some reposts from Twitter and memes.
16. /r/SHIBArmy/
This one is for Shiba Inu fans: memes and rallying cries

The SHIBarmy subreddit focused on three coins: $SHIB, $LEASH, and $BONE. The color coding of this subreddit makes it really hard to read yet it still has about 500K members. Join it if you want to have some fun but otherwise, it’s not going to enrich your knowledge
17. /r/CryptoCurrencies/
Another good news site where it is ok to ask any question

This forum claims to be “Reddit’s best source for uncensored cryptocurrency news, technicals, education, and memes”. They tag their topics according to whether they are news-related, investing, market sentiment, metaverse or NFTs, and so on. The community is quite engaged and has about 377K members
18. /r/litecoin/
This is the best Reddit resource if you own Litecoin crypto. It is surprisingly large.

Litecoin is one of the earliest altcoins to appear on the market after Bitcoin. It has a strong following of 356K members with about 1000 being active at any point in time. As you would expect all of the discussion centers around Litecoin.
19. /r/Ripple/
This one is for the ripple aficionados.

This group has 350K members with all the discussions centering around XRP and related topics.
20. /r/cryptocurrencymemes/
One to join for fun.

Just like the name suggests this community is purely for fun crypto memes. Jokes aside you get a sense of what is happening on the market by looking at the top memes. Then you need to check your crypto news sources to delve into more detail.
21. /r/Monero/
Follow this subreddit if you own Monero or are a fan of privacy-preserving coins.

With 277K members and about 2k active members the Monero subreddit is the place to be if you care about the Monero blockchain and finding out more about this privacy-preserving currency.
19. /r/crypto/
For engineers who want to geek out on cryptography.

This is a technical subreddit that focuses on cryptography. I would not recommend this subreddit for beginners. But if you are a programmer or deep into cryptography then this is the best group for you to join
20. /r/Crypto_Currency_News/
A third most popular source for news and crypto-related discussions.

This is a pretty cool subreddit for following crypto news. A lot of the posts are from users just posting news articles and then there is some discussion around these. I use it to browse what’s going on but I don’t spend too much time here.
21. /r/CryptocurrencyICO/
Stay on top of upcoming ICOs

As the name suggests this page is good to follow if you want to be in the loop on upcoming initial coin offerings. I recommend you exercise extreme caution and apply all your critical abilities in order to avoid jumping in on any scams or rug pulls. If I was a scammer this is where I would hang out to find naive new users to “invest” their money.
22. /r/opensea/
For OpenSea shoppers.

Opensea is the largest marketplace for NFTs. This subreddit is great for those who want to spot opportunities and stay up to date on new NFTs collections that have been placed on Opensea. It has about 170K members.
23. /r/NFTsMarketplace/
For NFT aficionados looking for the next big thing.

Again, if you are into NFTs this is a large subreddit with 270K members discussing all things related to NFTs
24. /r/solana/
Stay on top of what is going on in the Solana ecosystem by following this subreddit.

The Solana community has grown large enough to deserve its own special place on Reddit. Though it is a smaller community it is the best place to stay updated on all things Solana.
25. /r/AxieInfinity/
Purely for Axie Infinity players.

Axie Infinity is the first and largest game that uses crypto tokens. Axie Infinity players are one of the largest and most passionate communities in crypto.
