How to choose the best crypto leverage platform

Choosing the best crypto leverage platform requires you to consider a combination of factors, not just one. The leverage ratio, though ideal, should not be the only guiding criterion.

The following are the important factors to consider when choosing the best crypto leverage platform:

1. Platform reputation

When it comes to dealing with financial instruments, platform reputation overrides all other considerations.

There is no need to risk losing your investment based on the promise of high leverage. When the deal is too good, think twice.

Platform reputation requires you to consider:

  • Experience – how old has the platform existed? How long has it been offering leverage products? Does it have experienced experts on its profile? Yes, it is important to address these questions. Read the ‘About Us’ section and/or the ‘Employee Profile’ section to get some of these answers. You may get more details from the reputable industry magazines and newsletters.
  • Trading volume – trading volume is an indicator of the platform’s capacity to handle trades and investments. High trading volume means that the platform can handle huge trades and investments. It is also an indicator of investor confidence in the platform. Most importantly, you should vouch for historical growth in trading volume rather than just the current trading volume. For example, a platform may have a very high trading volume, but it is either stagnant or on the decline. This could be a negative indicator and a warning sign.
  • User reviews – how do users view it? What is the user experience rating? You can get user reviews from independent reviewers such as TrustPilot, etc.
  • Industry rating – How is the platform rated industrywide? Get this information from industry rating agencies.
  • Regulatory compliance – Does the platform comply with regulatory requirements? Has it been cited for any breach of regulatory requirements?
  • Risk coverage – how does the company cover risks? Does it have an insurance policy? What is its insurance policy?

2. Registration requirements

Some platforms are easy to register while others require complex registration requirements.

For example, some require just a verified phone contact and email address. Others will require a verified national ID. Still, some will require biometric verification.

Make sure that you are comfortable with the registration requirements, and that you can meet them.

3. Trading pairs

A cryptocurrency exchange is a market. The chances of getting your product increase when there are more products on the market. In terms of crypto trading, these are the trading pairs. You need to be able to find the right trading pair to leverage.

The higher the number of trading pairs the greater the chance of you finding the right pair to leverage.

4. Features

Your chosen platform should have features that will make it easy for you to efficiently and effectively trade and invest. The following are the key features that you should look out for in your chosen platform:

  • User-friendly interface – The interface design is important. You should test the interface to ensure that it is a user-friendly interface. Otherwise, you may end up wasting time and effort when using the platform. Wasted time is a missed opportunity. A user-friendly not only enhances your user experience but inspires you to do more on the platform.
  • Risk management tools – these tools enable one to undertake sound risk management strategies.
  • Analytical tools
  • Reporting tools
  • Multi-platform support
  • Contract types – futures contracts, perpetual contracts
  • Order types – Limit Order, Market Order, Conditional Order, Take-Profit Orders, etc.

5. Leverage ratio

Two important factors that determine the leverage ratio are the margin and the leverage factor.

A margin is the value of assets that you want to leverage. It is like collateral that you use to get a loan. A margin can also be described as an initial investment or initial capital. Leverage is simply the amount of borrowed funds that you are going to get high and above your margin. The leverage ratio can be expressed in terms of the multiplier (X) factor, that is, X leverage. In this ‘X’ denotes how many times the ‘debt/loan’ is above the margin amount.

For example, 10x means 10 times the margin. Thus, if your margin is $200, then the leverage amount will be $200 x 10, that is, $2,000. You can then use this $2,000 to place a trade order. In this case, the crypto exchange will lend you funds worth $1800 to your margin account.

The leverage ratio can be expressed in various forms, e.g., 5x (1:5), 50x (1:50), 125x (1:125), etc.

6. Leverage limit

Different platforms have differing maximum leverage limits. In many cases, these limits vary depending on the type of asset you are leveraging. For example, most crypto-leveraging platforms have higher limits for bitcoin margin trading.

The maximum amount of leverage that you are allowed to use depends on these leverage limits and your initial margin.

7. Funding and withdrawal methods

While a certain platform may present great opportunities, if it doesn’t have a funding and withdrawal method that you can use, then, it is of no help.

Thus, it is important to ensure that your chosen platform has funding and withdrawal methods that you can use.

Fiat money funding and withdrawal methods are important. These include credit cards, bank transfers, and wire transfers.

8. Regulatory compliance and requirements

To keep your assets safe, it is important to ensure that your chosen platform complies with regulatory authorities within its established jurisdiction.

9. Charges (fees and interest)

All else being equal, go for a platform that charges low fees. Similarly, go for a platform whose interest rate is low.

10. Customer support

Go for a platform that has prompt and helpful customer support. Phone calls and live chats are important.
